Artisanal Hedgehog House

The new Fairtrade, handmade Artisan Hedgehog House is designed to create a safe haven for hedgehogs in your garden. It has a sturdy, corrosion resistant steel frame, with water-based sealant applied to the hessian lining to provide good water resistance. The integrated safety tunnel protects against predators and gives hedgehogs a place to escape by retreating into the living areas.

Our Artisan Hedgehog House offers women working in Bangladesh an opportunity to earn a good income. The exterior of the hedgehog house is covered with woven seagrass that is locally collected and expertly hand sewn to the frame. Because the product is made from natural materials, the appearance may vary due to seasonal availability and environmental factors.

Each Artisan Hedgehog House is handcrafted using natural seagrass and recycled saris to the highest quality finish. The individual artisans choose the colourful recycled sari pattern around the entrance, making each hedgehog house unique.

Buying our Fairtrade products helps both wildlife and people. As well as giving the hedgehogs in your garden a home, you are supporting the artisans in southern Bangladesh who make them and funding the survival of many women and their families in rural communities living in poverty.

Place the Artisan Hedgehog House within some cover, out of the prevailing wind, preferably in an area with nearby vegetation. Pile leaves or foliage around the house for further camouflage and insulation. The house can be anchored for added security with 2-4 stakes hooked over the metal frame and driven into the ground.

Maintenance

All natural products should be checked annually for damage, loose parts and cleanliness during the off season. Make sure the house is not in use for an annual inspection.

To use

Not suitable for sick or rescued hedgehogs that require regular check-ups. If you feed hedgehogs, always leave a bowl of fresh water outside.
