About the Northern Flicker
The Northern Flicker is abundant in North America, parts of Central America, and the West Indies. They are one of the few migratory woodpeckers and have the unusual habit of feeding directly on the ground, pecking at beetles, ants, and occasionally invertebrates. Their nesting habits also differ from those of other woodpeckers, and they like to reuse tree cavities which both the male and female furnish.
