About Barn Swallows

The iridescent, dark blue barn swallow is an acrobatic bird. Its short legs make it unsuited to landing on the ground, meaning it spends most of its life in flight, and even prefers to drink during flight.
The swallow has adapted to nest almost exclusively in man-made structures such as barns, attics, garages, and occasionally bridges and piers. They form the nest as an open clay bowl and line it with feathers.
