Omschrijving

The Little Owl nest box is a high quality hand crafted nest box which provides Little Owls with a dark and safe purpose built nesting space. The high entrance ensures that young fledglings are retained in the box for as long as possible. The reduced size of the entrance hole prevents larger owls from gaining access to the box. Handmade from solid FSC certified timber in our Gloucestershire workshops Slow seasoned timber eliminates the need for chemicals, stains or artificial preservatives Lightweight but durable Recycled plastic hanging/fixing plates Deep dark box with small tunnel entrance Supplied with camera clip Location - Little Owls are traditionally birds of farmland, orchards or small holdings with mixed land, outbuildings, cows and barns. In the wild the Little Owl may use rabbit burrows, old buildings or natural holes in trees as nesting sites. Therefore the box should be positioned between the ground and no more than 2.5 metres high, preferably out of reach of domestic cats. The box can be placed on a woodland tree, an orchard tree, in a hedge or on a building. The box should ideally be oriented towards the east/northeast or south-east. The availability of prey close to the nest box is essential. Little Owls eat a variety of small mammals, invertebrates such as beetles, grasshoppers, moths and even small birds. These can be found in invertebrate-rich pastures, piles of rotting wood or compost heaps and manure piles.
