About skylarks

The skylark is widespread throughout Europe. In appearance, both male and female are dull grey-brown streaked on the upperparts and breast with off-white bellies. However, in flight they are awe-inspiring, and the species is known for the male's acrobatic song flight which he displays to declare the pair's territory.

Skylarks live in open farmland and heathland, and even nest far from trees or bushes in a shallow hollow directly on the ground. After building the nest, the female lays three to five eggs that hatch after about 11 days. The chicks are ready to fly after 18-20 days.
