This beautiful house has been carefully designed as a shelter for hedgehogs during the breeding season and for their winter hibernation. Hedgehog numbers are still declining so it is vital to ensure they have a safe place in our gardens.
The entrance to the house is tailor-made: large enough for larger and pregnant hedgehogs to safely enter and exit the house, but small enough to prevent potential predators from getting in. The long entrance tunnel also helps to deter predators.
The house has a removable roof, so it can be easily cleaned or filled with suitable nesting material, such as hay or dry leaves. The roof is also sloped and has an overhang to prevent rain from entering during heavy rainfall. The built-in ventilation prevents moisture from accumulating in the house.

April and October are the best months to place a hedgehog house, because the hibernation season ends and begins in those months. If it stays cold for longer in the spring, hedgehogs will hibernate longer. Therefore, be careful not to disturb them.
