Our wooden boxes are true craftsmen’s pieces, the material has a unique character and feel. And we produce each piece in a way that allows it to age beautifully. Their hand-carved exterior creates a beautiful surface texture that enhances the natural feel of the material.

About the piece

Craftsmen make our wooden boxes from cherry, a fast-growing deciduous hardwood that grows in tall, dense clusters. It has a warm reddish hue with striking variations in the dark grain patterns, accented by dark "spots" formed by resin sacs.

The craftsmen make the boxes entirely out of wood using a method inspired by traditional shrink potting. This approach takes advantage of the natural contraction of the wood during the drying process. In particular, they connect the components of the box without using nails or screws to accommodate the natural flexibility of the wood under changing humidity conditions.

An expertly carved wooden mallard duck adorns the top of the round box and serves as a tactile button to open the container.

The box is treated with wood oil and we recommend that you rejuvenate the oil occasionally.
